Project Description:

FHI 360’s Civil Society and Peacebuilding Department (CSPD) supports citizens to mobilize effectively to influence policy, improve lives, and build peace. CSPD works with civil society to increase its credibility, visibility and effectiveness by building its capacity to:

  • Engage with local government to increase its responsiveness to citizen needs;
  • Solve community problems, engage youth in civic affairs, and provide needed services to citizens;
  • Advocate for social justice, democratic reforms, human rights, and effective policies;
  • Produce media, including online, radio, and television content, to promote social dialogue and tolerance; and
  • Promote peaceful solutions to conflict and support peace negotiations.



CSPD is currently seeking an Organizational Capacity Building Manager for an anticipated USAID-funded civil society support project in Nepal that aims to strengthen the enabling environment for Nepali civil society and media, improve civil society and media capacity for effective policy advocacy and government engagement, support more coordinated and effective civil society and media oversight of public resource use and service delivery, and strengthen organizational capacity and sustainability of civil society organizations (CSOs) working in USAID priority sectors.

The Organizational Capacity Building Manager will lead the design, management and implementation of capacity building initiatives for civil society and media organizations in Nepal, including developing curricula, organizing and coordinating training events, workshops, and providing technical assistance.


Job Summary / Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the design and implementation of organizational capacity and needs assessments for CSOs and other intermediate service organizations (ISOs);
  • Develop an overall capacity-building strategy that will sustainably build the capacity of and strengthen CSOs and other ISOs;
  • Coordinate the design and implementation of participatory curricula, interactive training interventions, and individualized technical assistance for CSO and other core partners;
  • Coordinate the delivery of individualized technical assistance to CSOs and other beneficiaries in the areas of organizational management and governance, financial management, advocacy and outreach, policy development, and other areas as required;
  • Develop, in close coordinate with the Chief of Party, materials and design capacity building interventions to train and mentor other facilitators (training of trainers) at the community and national levels;
  • Provide technical support to staff and local partners in ensuring capacity building activities are promoting best practices as appropriate to the needs of the organizations.
  • Ensure appropriate mix and balance of training, TA, coaching, mentoring, and information sharing;
  • Throughout the program’s life, monitor and report on the organizations’ progress on achieving organizational capacity development benchmarks, identify potential weaknesses and make necessary adjustments to close gaps;
  • Support project efforts to develop a marketplace for capacity development services, including the identification of capacity development services providers;
  • Monitor, evaluate and report on program results that measure increases in skills and abilities, and determine the impact of training interventions;
  • Develop and draft program work plans, reports and other documentation as needed, such as training and resource materials, presentations, and budget proposals; and
  • Troubleshoot to identify and resolve project issues and implement improvement plans to ensure project stays on schedule and within budget.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or its international equivalent in international affairs, international development, public administration or a related field. Master’s degree or its international equivalent preferred;
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience providing capacity-building support through training, consultations and other mechanisms to CSOs with varying levels of organizational capacity;
  • At least three (3) years of project management and/or supervisory experience;
  • Experience providing capacity strengthening around policy advocacy, research and publication, coalition building, and media engagement;
  • Proven project management skills including project development, monitoring and evaluation and report writing;
  • Demonstrated experience in civil society, governance, organizational capacity building, advocacy, rule of law, or other related democracy and governance sectors;
  • Demonstrated experience with gender mainstreaming approaches;
  • Minimum three (3) years substantive training experience, including the design, facilitation and delivery of participatory trainings and training-of-trainer workshops for adult learners;
  • Minimum three (3) years relevant experience with capacity strengthening activities or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Experience working in/with Nepali CSOs preferred;
  • Familiarity with USAID programming, rules and regulations; and
  • Fluency in English and Nepali (reading, writing and speaking) required.

Availability of position is contingent upon award to FHI 360. Selection of final applicant is subject to USAID approval.
